Raven & Sabu vs. Abyss & The Alpha Male Monty Brown
This week, NWA TNA started the program with a huge match up involving 2 of the biggest competitors in the professional wrestling today. The monster, Abyss teamed up with “The Alpha Male” Monty Brown to take on the team of Raven and the Homicidal, Suicidal, Genocidal, Sabu. Last week, we saw Sabu get Raven’s back by attacking James Storm at ringside during Raven’s match with Chris Harris. In an interview before that match, Raven stated that Sabu always has his back, just like he will always watch Sabu’s back.
Abyss made his way to the ring with a chain wrapped around his arms and neck and was soon followed by Monty Brown. Sabu then rushed to the ring to get some revenge on both Brown and Abyss for their actions last week when he was put through a table and beaten on the outside. Raven’s music came on, but he was nowhere to be found. Sabu was left to battle both gigantic men by himself. Abyss and Monty Brown went right to work on Sabu. They dominated the hardcore icon for most of the match.
Since Sabu didn’t have his friend in his corner, he chose to use another friend of his for help. The Steel Chair! Once Sabu brought a chair into the ring, momentum seemed to swing back his way as he took shots at both Abyss and Monty Brown. Unfortunately, the numbers game worked against Sabu and Monty Brown got his “Pounce” on Sabu and Abyss finished him off with the sit down torture rack for the pin. In the end Abyss and Monty circled each other in the ring with a cold stare on each other.
The cameras then cut to the back where we saw Raven attacking the number 1 contender, Chris Harris. Raven quickly went to work on the left arm of Harris. He used to chairs to smash Harris’s left arm and went further by jamming the arm into a steel guardrail. James Storm came to the aid of his partner and ran off Raven, but the damage seemed to have already been done. Russo came to the aid of Harris as well. Raven retreated to the ring where he walked right over a motionless Sabu, who thought Raven would have his back tonight.
Jeremy Borash caught up with the X Division Champion, Frankie “The Future” Kazarian in the back. Kazarian stated that he was not disappointed that he was looked over again for a shot to join Team NWA TNA in the America’s Cup. He said that he had nothing to prove and that he already beat Jerry Lynn, Elix Skipper, and Sonjay Dutt. He made it clear that he was not interested anymore in joining the team. He concluded saying that he is the coolest person in the world.
Borash was then approached by David Young who was looking to speak with Scott Hudson. He said that he needed to talk to Scott and tell him that he is a winner and that he was going to prove it by going out later on and beat Shark Boy in a match.
David Young vs. Shark Boy
It was time for David Young to try and end his losing streak by going up against the man from 20,000 leagues under the sea. Young took total control of the match and looked like he was about to end his losing streak, when all of a sudden, Shark Boy got a quick roll up for a 3 count and won the match. David Young sat there in shock as his losing streak was added to again.
The 3 Live Kru then made their way to the squared circle with K-Dawg getting on the mic first. He stated that 3LK was getting the wrong end of the stick lately and that a lot of other people in TNA are getting great opportunities due to politics etc. He was arguably upset that “The Truth”, Ron Killings, doesn’t have a shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. B Gizzle then took the microphone and let Russo know that Raven doesn’t deserve any kind of shot at Jarrett and that it was time for Russo to make things right by the Truth. He told Russo that he better put Killings in that cage tonight. The Suntan Superman himself then got a hold of the stick and told Russo that he couldn’t handle the Truth!
The camera then turned to the back where Chris Harris was being taken out to an ambulance on a stretcher. It looked as if Harris had a separated shoulder and would not be able to compete for the title later in the night. He told Russo that he wanted his partner James Storm to take his place in that match. Russo walked off with a huge decision to make.
Simon Diamond and Sonny Siaki vs. Glenn Gilberti and Johnny Swinger w/Trinity
Simon Diamond and Sonny Siaki came to the ring tonight with one thing on their minds. Revenge! Last week, The New York Connection of Glen Gilberti and Johnny Swinger took it to far when they put a beat down on both Siaki and Diamond. Swinger went so far as to even rip and shred Simon Diamond’s robe. There were a lot of bad intentions coming into this match and it started off with Diamond and Siaki taking the advantage early on. Simon and Sonny looked as if they have been tagging for a while as they used impressive teamwork to get the edge early on in the match.
The match spilled to ringside where Sonny Siaki set up the steps on the outside where he leaped of them to catch Gilberti with a viscous clothesline. Once back in the ring, Simon Diamond tried the Simon Series of suplexes on Swinger, but Swinger knows what was going on all too well and he managed to stop the move and turn things back his way. Gilberti and Swinger worked on Simon for a while until Diamond finally made his way to his corner to tag Siaki. Sonny Siaki cleared house and then hit his Siacolypse Now on Swinger. He was about to finish it off with a move off the top rope, but Trinity managed to push him off. Due to the outside interference by Trinity, Swinger was able to get a DDT on Siaki and cover him for the win.
While Swinger and Gilberti were celebrating with Trinity in the middle of the ring, Desire ran down and gave both Gilberti and Swinger a low blow from behind. Then the returning diva began to stare down Trinity for a minute before they both went at it in the middle of the ring. Once the 2 were separated, Siaki got back in the ring and embraced his former partner with a hug. Desire and Sonny Siaki were reunited after about a year of being apart.
Attention shifted back to the locker room area where Borash caught up with Russo again. Russo had no idea who he was going to put in Chris Harris’ place later in the night. A J Styles then walked up to Vince and asked that he be put in the match. Russo was not too convinced after Styles didn’t trust him. Russo then walked off, still with a lot on his mind and a big decision to make.
“The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels vs. Michael Shane
It was now time in the evening for the match between Christopher Daniels and Michael Shane for the chance at a spot on Team NWA. The winner would take Sonjay Dutt’s place on Team NWA and compete in the America’s Cup next month. Although it seemed that The New Franchise has been having their problems as of late, both Traci and Shane Douglas accompanied Michael Shane to the ring, where Douglas joined Tenay and West at the announcer’s table. When asked about the situation that his team was going through, Douglas responded saying that every true family has its fights.
The match was everything it was expected to be with both competitors pulling off some fantastic X style moves on each other. It was a back and forth affair with Traci getting involved early on. She managed to take a shot at The Fallen Angel with her cast right to his midsection. During the match Shane Douglas pushed Michael Shane out of the way and too the blow from a moonsault by Daniels that crashed both of them to the concrete floor. Once Shane got back up he deliberately shoved Douglas out of the way and went after Daniels.
Once back in the ring, Daniels went for the BME (Best Moonsault Ever) and hit it on Michael Shane, but came up short on the 3 count. Michael Shane hit his finisher as well on Daniels by delivering a superkick, but Daniels was able to kick out. Shane Douglas got up and jumped up on the apron with a chain wrapped around his fist. He then proceeded to his Daniels in the back of the head, knocking the Fallen Angel to the canvas. Douglas yelled at Shane to finish him with the pin, but Shane didn’t listen and wanted to end the match with another superkick.
While the two of them argued, Daniels regained his composure and rolled up Michael Shane for the victory and a spot on Team NWA. Jerry Lynn, Elix Skipper, and Chris Sabin met their new teammate after the match at the top of the ramp and embraced him, while Michael Shane and Shane Douglas got in another shouting match in the ring. Michael Shane kept pushing Douglas over and over and even shoved Traci to the ring floor. Douglas couldn’t take anymore and took off his belt and began to whoop Shane with it. While Shane Douglas was delivering blows to the head of his former apprentice, Traci grabbed the belt and started choking Douglas. Michael Shane then gets up to deliver a superkick to Douglas. Security then came down to break up the fight.
